Guerrero Project Update - Oct 10 Trip

As you know, several times per year, a team of Rotarians & volunteers make a trek to Guerrero, MX, and accomplish amazing results. Our next eye Clinic will be October 10th, 2012. The Clinic is located in Guerrero City State of Chihuahua Mexico. Please make plans to participate in the near future. On a recent 2 day clinic (July 5-6), they performed 114 Cataract surgeries and 10 pterigium surgeries.
The group included Dr. Jane Leidlein from Brazosport Rotary Club in Lake Jackson, Dr. Hector De La O from Torreon, Coahuila MX, Dr. Roberto Leal, Dr. Paty Ruiz and Vicky Ruiz, from Chihuahua, MX.
Over the past 30+ years, the Guerrero Clinic and Rotarians from our District have been instrumental in providing millions of dollars in free medical care to the indigent people of the state of Chihuahua Mexico. The clinic is in the process of being certified by the Mexican government. Once the clinic is certified, it will be able to receive government funding for each surgery to help operate and run the facility. This funding would allow the clinic to be self-sufficient and require very little funds from Rotary in the future.
The costs of the renovation are $215,000.00. The clinic has received a grant from the Chihuahua Businessman's Club for 80% of the cost in the amount of $172,000. Unfortunately, that still leaves a balance of $43,000.00 needed to complete this project and we need your financial support to make it sustainable.
We am thankful for all the funds that have been given over the years in support of the Guerrero Clinic. This clinic has provided thousands of Mexican citizens with much needed life saving services and has continued to build public awareness and Rotary’s image over the last 30 years.
Sustainability and self-sufficient are very key milestones in this project. On behalf of those less fortunate, please once again consider financially helping the Guerrero Clinic to get over this hurdle. Be sure to speak to your club about participating in this project. Your support, either personally or through your club, will make a difference in the quality of life of countless people.
