ROTARY TEACHERS OF THE YEAR RECEIVE MORE AWARDS!!
CCISD ELEMENTARY TEACHER IS REGION 4 TEACHER OF THE YEAR
League City, TX -- Jillian Howard, CCISD’s Elementary Teacher of the Year, was selected as the Region 4 Elementary Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made the evening of Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in Houston. Howard now moves forward to represent CCISD and Region 4 at the State level.
“Those who have had the honor and privilege to work and learn from Mrs. Howard know she truly embodies the characteristics we want for all students,” said CCISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith. “She overcame great odds in her youth and was inspired by one of her own teachers to keep moving forward and to become a teacher herself.”
Visitors to Jillian Howard’s 3rd grade classroom at Landolt Elementary School in Friendswood quickly see how she turned four walls into an amazing place of creativity for students. The bi-lingual teacher created “Howardtonville”, a city where every student played in an important role every day based on their strengths.
CCISD is also very proud of Betty McCulloch, CCISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year, as she was named as a finalist in the Region 4 category for secondary teachers. McCulloch is a 6th grade science teacher at Clear Creek Intermediate School. “She is quite the force in bridging the gap between school and home for our neediest families, “said Dr. Smith. “She didn’t make it into the classroom on the traditional track. In fact, she never saw herself as a teacher until she became a parent volunteer. Her heart led her to the classroom.”
It is rare to have two teachers from the same district make it to the finals of Region 4. Both of these outstanding teachers credit their honors to the support of campus staff, students and parents as well as district leadership beginning at the board level. CCISD extends appreciation and thanks for Rotary Clubs of Space Center, League City, and Seabrook for identifying these two teachers as CCISD's shining stars..
