Service was in action as members of the Rotary Club of Space Center teamed up to help local students and teachers prepare for a successful school year.
Rotary members split up to deliver donated school supplies to three area schools. Kippy Caraway and John Nugent delivered supplies to Armand Bayou Elementary, while James Saxe and Carol Eardley Saxe delivered to Clear Lake Elementary. John Branch, MarilynWayne Musial, Bill Hollister, Nurit Hinthorn, Madella Williams, and Ute Schneider delivered supplies to Whitcomb Elementary.
The effort was made possible through the generosity of everyone who donated, organized, packed, and delivered supplies. Their contributions will help ensure local students and teachers have some of the tools they need for a great year ahead.

The EPIC Day was founded in 2022 by two Rotary District Governors -- Jeff Krause and Joanne Alfieri -- in Connecticut and Massachusetts. They were responding to Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta's call for all clubs to do a Rotary Day of Service. On May 16, thousand of Rotarians around the world celebrate Day of Service.

Whoever knows Bob Wren, recognizes him as a devoted and dedicated Rotarian, a remarkable member of his profession in the Aerospace industry and for his outstanding commitment to our community. We are "over the moon" and honored to have him as a member of our Club for almost 50 years.

On March 30, 2026 during our weekly meetings, Suzi Howe, Past Aid to RI President, Past RI Director and PDG, shared her most recent experience at the Spring Guerrero Clinic as translator and general volunteer. It's not the first time Suzi has reported stories about patients being helped at the Guerrero Clinic, but this time, something really touched her heart and the hearts of many. Suzi showed us this inspirational video posted on The Guerrero Clinic Facebook page. Several members were in tears after watching this inspirational testimony.
What a wonderful evening full of intrigue, fun and giving. Space Center Rotary Club members, fellow rotarians, family members and friends were United for Goodfor a fun event and with Compassion gave back to our Community the evening of March 20, 2026 at the South Shore Harbour Resort & Conference Center.
The Red Rose Programwas initiated in February of 2009 by our dear Club member Jerry Smith. Jerry was a member of the Senior Citizens Committee, chaired by Steve Waldner. Years later, the program was re-named “Roses for Seniors.”
On 22 November, The Rotary Foundation APPROVED a $304,000 Global Grant submitted by the Rotary Club of Space Center, which was to focus on the child sex trafficking problem in the Houston Metropolitan Area. This result was the culmination of many peoples' (clubs, DGs, educators, community leaders, etc.) effort over the past several years.
In 1990 the song “Wind of Change” was written by Klaus Meine inspired by the end of the Cold War, as an anthem of peace and freedom. In 1979 Rotary International launched a project to immunize six million children in the Philippines, helping them to become free of being permanently paralyzed. Neither Klaus Meine, nor James Bomar Jr., then RI president, imagined the impactful effects their actions would cause to the world, “ a change.”

“We need to work TOGETHER. Alone, we go nowhere. We lose. Together, we win. Always…,” our Rotary International President Francessco Arezzo said in one of his remarks at the Calgary Convention when defining Unite For Good theme for this Rotary year… and with those powerful and inspirational words, Suzi Howe, RI Aide to Past President, PROD and member of the Rotary Club of Space Center began her journey to Ground Zero (by the Guadalupe River) in Kerrville, Texas from July 11-18, 2025. Suzi shared some of her experiences with members of our Club on July 21st.
On July 16, 2025 Space Center Rotary was proud to donate snacks to Communities In Schools - Bay Area (CIS) to help support students right here in our local community! 🍎📚
Another busy week for Space Center Rotary. On May 13, 2025 we donated signed and dedicated books by our speakers at the Ellison Onizuka Library, Whitcomb Elementary School. Every year the Club donates about 40+ books a year and the kids love the speakers' notes.

An amazing and successful Space Center Rotary 2025 Fundraising Tournament presented by Hunt & Hunt, LTD on May 19 at Bay Oaks Country Club. Not only did we have a good breeze and cloudy skies, but a solid 17 foursomes and great sponsor donations and participation throughout the day. It exceeded our expectations! The proceeds will be part of our next Rotary Year's amazing local and international programs, under the leadership of our President Elect, Teri Crawford.
An amazing event on April 25 at Hyatt Regency Houston Downtown celebrating the 2025 Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA), honoring Mrs. Pamela Melroy, NASA Deputy Administrator, who received the 2025 National Space Trophy.
The RNASA Foundation has supported the High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) soon after its inception and donations have allowed more students to complete on-line lessons. HAS students spend a week during the summer at Johnson Space Center where they are briefed by engineers, scientists, and astronauts. These talented kids actively cooperate to design settlements on Mars. See the photos.

Space Center Rotary teamed up with Rise Against Hunger and absolutely crushed it—**10,000 meals** packed and ready to make a global impact! Over 60 volunteers showed up with energy, heart, and a whole lot of hustle. In just 4 hours, we turned teamwork into tangible change!

Cold or rainy, our Community Service Committee does amazing things. Our first project of the year 2025 was a true success! "We had SO many items donated that we had to make 2 runs", Community Service Director Nurit Hinthorn said.
In addition to all of the items, we also delivered 20 hand written letters to be included in the care packages. And last but not least, Space Center Rotary contributed $100 for shipping costs.
Many thanks to Past President Darryl Smith for leading our last meeting of 2024. Suzi Howe, PRID and Aide PE Mario Cesar Martins presented the last two Paul Harris Plus Pins of the year to Mike Hesse and Gary Johnson.

Space Center Rotary went above and beyond for its 2024 Whitcomb Christmas Cheer event! Whitcomb counselor Jessica Hale provided us with wish lists for five underserved families, covering their children’s wants and needs.
Thanks to extra donations, smart shopping, and an incredible team effort, we fulfilled every item on the lists *and* added a $100 Kroger gift card for each family!
The gifts included bicycles, skateboards, tablets, clothes, shoes, scooters, socks, hygiene products and so much more! A big thank you to Space Center Rotary for making such an incredible impact on these families! True TEAMWORK in action!!
Operation Turkey and Space Center Rotary were well organized as the food was prepared boxed and packaged and ready to be delivered as soon as we showed up at 7:45am. All the meals were delivered to South Houston by 10:15am. 74 meals were packaged and delivered.
What an amazing event! A wonderful evening with Rotarian fellows, family members and friends. We raised about $5,000.00 + to End Polio Now. Thank you so much for all Donors and supporters of another successful Space Center Rotary Club Fundraising event. Thanks to all wine lovers and their amazing support. The Auction was a fenzy of bids! On Thursday evening BATP ( Bay Area Turning Point) had a gathering to create awareness for Sexual Abuse & Child Abuse Awareness at Clear Lake Park off of NASA Road 1. Several of our SCR members joined in the walk and gathering to be supportive. ( SCR President Randy & wife Cathy, Carol & Jim, Olive, Stephanie, & Madella all showed up!). Kudos to Kat Clemmons for putting this all together. BATP is one of the organizations SCR supports throughout the year.

Presentation on Tharseo Place, “a dwelling place for the brave and courageous” —a safe haven and place of recovery for young women aged 14 to 17 recovering from human trafficking. Their motto is “Have Courage: Be Brave”. Stan G and Randy S presented $5000 to Tharseo Place for their continuing work to aid in recovery of Human Trafficking.

Red Badger Steve Charbonneau shared some of his story of who he is and what he does! Steve is a commercial banker ( UH graduate) who is married with two small children. Although he did not grow up with Rotary, one of the things he really appreciates about SCR is the sense of community it shares with its members!
We will be collecting new classroom supplies for our teachers at Armand Bayou, Clear Lake & Whitcomb Elementary for the next 3 weeks and then assembling teacher gift boxes with the supplies. Watch for a list of supplies to come out this week!

Space Center Rotary Club Endowment Foundation, (a 501c3 non-profit established in 1991) brought today’s program. It’s SCR philanthropic, charitable, educational, humanitarian way of supporting the Clear Lake Area for both individuals and businesses.

This past week, Space-Center-Rotary Club participated in the “Not-in-My-City Campaign, sponsored by Unbound Now - Houston. This event asked us to visit local businesses in the Clear Lake City area, advise the owners of the presence of human sex trafficking in this region, and ask them if we would allow us to post signs in bathrooms and vending areas that would offer victims (or observers of this crime) a number to call and seek help and assistance. Over 25 businesses were contacted and 75% of them offered their immediate support.
Todays guest speaker was Karla Kay, the founding director of Artist Boat— a 501(c)(3) begun in 2003 to provide unique eco-art programs that provide hands-on, place-based and experimental learning in the context of marine ecosystems and coastal margins of the Texas Coast.
Through Karla Kay’s leadership, 180,000 youth and members of the public have restored 60+ acres of coastal habitats, created public art interpreting coastal ecosystems on 50 campuses and the Galveston Seawall. We had a very inspirational and enlightening program via Zoom by Dr. Tanyss Munro who spoke about the uniqueness of the Amarok Society changing children’s lives through educating women in Bangladesh. Dr Munro and the Amarok Society are making life long changes in people’s lives through education.
By educating women and mothers, they in turn are educating children and communities are being transformed! Since 2006, they have developed a unique approach to provide the most marginalized children quality education. For their work, they have been the recipients of the Queen Elizabeth 2 Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Truly, an inspiration to imagining how we can all make a difference, one life at a time! Way to serve the world!!!

One of the highlights of today was gifting a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Freeman Public Library of Clear Lake, and Bay Area Turning Point with checks for the community service work they do!
Maria Inestroza, Latin American Director for Pure Water for the World (PWW) reports (over Zoom) on our Global Grant partnership to bring WASH facility to schools in Honduras.
The meals from our Rise Against Hunger Service Project on 8/6/2022 have been shipped in a container totaling 285,120 meals from the Rise Against Hunger Houston warehouse. The meals will be received by their in-country partner, Convoy of Hope in Philippines. GREAT JOB Rotarians!
Space Center was happy to have Terry Ziegler, District 5890 Rotary foundation chair, and past District Polio plus chair, come and speak to Space Center Rotary on the latest progress with Rotary‘s plan to eradicate polio. Past Rotary International Director, Suzi Howe, made the introductions. Members stayed afterwards to fill bags with candy for the exploration green Halloween event this coming Saturday.

Rotary Club of Space Center ( or Space Center Rotary as we sometimes call it!) met today at Pomodoro’s for lunch and program by Barbara Cutsinger from Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.
Barbara shared building projects that are undergoing construction happening in the Bay Area. Wow!!! Lots going on to make a difference in businesses as well as residential!! Our next meeting is October 17 at 12 noon! ( no meeting next week on Oct. 10 due to holiday.)
How exciting to have Marianne Dyson, mother of one of our own SCR members—Scott B Dyson—to speak today at Space Center Rotary. Marianne is a past NASA Mission Controller and published author who has written several books, including “A Passion for Space—Adventures of a Pioneering Female NASA Flight Controller”.
CCISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Karen Engle, and Dr Laura MacKay, along with Ward Elementary Principal Jaclyn Rhee and Greg Ploss, a representative from the CC Education Foundation expressed grateful thanks to SCR for our financial support.
Our Club had awarded a $3000 gift last year to Clear Creek Educational Foundation to this effort. And, today, we were able to present a check for $5000 to CCEF to continue the great work they are doing in RCC at the elementary school level!

Our very own President Stan Galanski led the program on the importance of data driven information and its implementation. The title of the Presentation was "New Technologies for the Refinery of the Future'', a project he has been leading for 4 years at Texmark Chemical, in Galena Park, Texas (along the Houston Ship Channel).

His Bio:
Gordon joined Rotary in 1984 at age 26. A member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, he has served as president and vice president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI). He has also served RI as a director and on several committees, including as an adviser to the 2022 Houston Convention Committee and chair of the Operations Review Committee.
Gordon says he looks forward to working with members to build new Rotary clubs and groups. “My vision is that Rotary should exist everywhere in a style to suit everyone who has the desire to be part of us and to help us do good in the world,” he says.

Space Center Rotary Club is the International Partner on this Global Grant to help save lives of refugees and local women and children in Cucuta, Columbia.
Bill Davis said "Another wonderful Rotary day in Cúcuta, Colombia. We visited the second and third Global Grants developed by Gladys Maldonado both at the Erasmo Meoz hospital in Cúcuta. A $55,000 project to provide equipment for the pediatric ward (RC of Baytown) and $127,000 to provide equipment for the Gynecology ward (RC of Space Center). The hospital President was most appreciative."
"These Colombians are so kind. I was able to complement the hospital for their compassionate assistance provided to the Venezuelans under most difficult conditions. More than one half of the patients are Venezuelans having fled their homeland. Cúcuta is in the border with VZ."

Bill was able to redirect the funding we had originally raised for a WASH project in Ethiopia to this awesome project after the Ethiopia project had to be cancelled due to the security risk in the region.
Clear Creek ISD Honors Outstanding Educators at Annual Teacher of the Year Luncheon
The Rotary Clubs of Space Center, Seabrook and League City honored Clear Creek Independent School District’s 44 campus Teachers of the Year at a luncheon at South Shore Habour Resort and Conference Center on Monday, May 21, 2018. During the luncheon, the 2018 CCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year "Crystal Starke" of Mossman Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year "Anita Lewis" of Westbrook Intrmediate were announced from a field of six finalists.
Beyond educating students, the following teachers have also been identified as a leader on their campus, working collaboratively with co-workers to improve the school culture. CCISD congratulates the 2018 campus Teachers of the Year:

Another Local Random Act of Kindness by Space Center Rotary!!

A single mother of 4 came to the Communities In Schools - Bay Area office at McWhirter Elementary holding an eviction notice in her hand. She had three days to pay her rent. While speaking with her, the CIS Campus Coordinator realized this was her last chance at keeping her home. She had already called or visited several social service offices around town to no avail. Mom had hoped to get some extra hours at work, but that didn't happen. CIS got right to work and contacted Space Center Rotary and was put in touch with someone in charge of their "Random Acts of Kindness" program. Within 12 hours, Rotary had the approval to assist this family and presented her with a $1,000 check to pay rent. Needless to say there were tears of joy, relief, and appreciation in the CIS office. CIS also provided the mom with information about the United Way Thrive program to help her improve her monthly income and budget for future month's expenses. It was WIN-WIN day for everyone.

Lillian Alexander was nominated by Janice Albro recently to receive a Local Act of Kindness. This woman, a bit down on her luck as of late, had been visiting the YMCA. Several workers recognized that she would spend hours sitting on a bench or sipping a single cup of coffee began talking with her and found that she is homeless and was just seeking the shelter of the porch overhang or a warm cup of coffee. The YMCA administrative staff took it upon them to offer her a complimentary membership so that she could use the showers and enjoy a frequent cup of coffee.
Meeting Lillian today she was pleased to share that she is doing her best to volunteer as she is able at the YMCA so that she is giving back to the people that have helped her.
Madella and Gary participated in the awards ceremony at Clear View High School on Thursday evening. Great to see SCR involved, but what is really cool is that the Seabrook Club and League City Clubs also were super involved. Rotary clubs and districts working together for the community - HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!

CLHS Interact club has been notified that they will be awarded Rotary International's Presidential Award for their outstanding work for Rotary in the year 2014-2015. CLHS Interact Club is a Service Organization following the Rotary Motto of "SERVE ABOVE SELF".
The Club ran projects to benefit: Rotary Polio Plus, Rotary Beads of Hope-Nicaragua, Rotary Global Water Project, and Rotary Disaster Relief worldwide. They also provided service locally with a food and clothing drives for San Jacinto College and GoodWill organization, service at Space Center Rotary Annual Shrimporee and also service at Space Center Rotary Endowment Foundation Pancake Breakfast. Interactors began a new program this year called a RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS, which occurred monthly, alternating between Rotarians and CLHS Staff. A Holiday Hayride for all Interactors to celebrate a traditional holiday was in honor of Interact and Rotary Youth Exchange students, Adam from Poland and Chiarra from Italy. Space Center Rotary gave Leadership scholarships to two of our Interactors to attend RYLA Camp and continues to support the Interact Club with annual Senior Scholarships.

It is with great sadness that I must report the PDG Floyd Boze passed away February 20th. PDG Floyd lead a great life (see bio below), and was the kindest Rotarian that I have know. Floyd was president of the Lubbock Rotary Club, became a member of Space Center Rotary Club on August 20, 1973. Floyd was elected Governor of Rotary District 589 (now 5890) in 1984. His District Conference was held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Floyd & Nancy were both Paul Harris Fellows & Floyd Boze Fellows. As of this Rotary Year, 2013-14, Floyd had 63 years of perfect attendance, having made up missed meetings of his home club in more than 20 countries outside the U. S. Please say a prayer for PDG Floyd Boze's family. Floyd was a true Rotarian, who lived the life of "Service Above Self". And now we must say good-by to one of the truly good guys. I'm sure God has already scheduled a Rotary meeting in heaven to honor the arrival of PDG Floyd Boze. I can see the banner now, "Well done thy good and faithful servant". And to no surprise, Brother Floyd will have perfect attendance into perpetuity.
Space Center Rotary's EarlyAct FirstKnight program has been a tremendous success. Teaching chivalry and building champions -- that's what the program is accomplishing at Whitcomb Elementary School. The program teaches children how to be role models and hold high standards for character. You haven't experienced Rotary, until you hear 700 young students recite Rotary's 4-Way Test "every morning". Organizers hope the examples will rub off on other kids. It was the last day of school for students at Clear Creek ISD, and some of them went home with proud parents and new titles for the summer. The Rotary National Awards for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation presented the National Space Trophy (NST), to former Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison; a Space Communicator Award to NASA Jet Propulsion Lab's (JPL) News and Social Media Manager, Veronica McGregor; and Stellar Awards to 23 individuals and seven teams at the gala on Friday, April 26, at the Houston Hyatt Regency.
The RNASA Foundation (originally created by Space Center Rotary Club) presents the National Space Trophy and Stellar Awards each year in recognition of outstanding achievements in aerospace. Aerospace leadership from around the world attend this crowning event in downtown Houston to honor the recipients.
Our Rotary /CCISD Teacher Recognition and Award luncheon is Monday, May 20, 2013, at South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center in League City. Olive Riker will be taking reservations . Rotary / CCISD Teacher Recognition & Award Luncheon - May 20
Space shuttle Endeavour, mounted atop NASA's modified 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA), will make the final ferry flight of the Space Shuttle Program era when it departs Monday, Sept. 17, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida headed to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Endeavor will include the Clear Lake area on its journey, secheduled to make multiple fly-bys on Sep 17, resting overnight, then departing for its final destination, Los Angeles. We hope to get approximate ETA and will let you know.
We will be giving a monetary donation to Cross Roads organization at our regular Club meeting, Monday September 10. This will be an opportunity to give clothing that's no longer needed, especially men's shoes, to a worthy cause. Cross Roads’ mission is to provide services to promote the health, hygiene and dignity of homeless persons. Be sure to bring lots of clothing, shoes, toiletries. Space Center Rotary Club has initiated the first EAFK program in Clear Creek ISD, its first program will be kicked off on Oct 16 at 1PM, at Whitcomb Elementary, located at 900 Reseda, Houston TX 77062. Student Orientation (kickoff show with horses, knights, music, medieval games, etc.):
October 16 at 1:30 pm Faculty Training (one hour): After the show from 3:45-4:45 As many Space Center Rotarians should attend the Faculty Training as possible since they'll learn lots of important info, plus it gives the teachers an opportunity to meet them. Please try to plan a one-hour training event for your Rotarian liaisons that evening.
Space Center Rotary Club has a small group of golf enthusiasts who want more members! We golf almost every Thursday (depending on weather and interest) at local public courses. All the courses offer a reduced rate for seniors – if you fit in that category. Non-senior rates are very reasonable. Tee times are usually early in the morning.
As I look at the inception of our club’s involvement in this project, I am reminded of the First Principle of Rotary: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. It was May, 2010 and my husband and I traveled to visit our son, a volunteer third grade teacher in a bilingual school in a small rural community in northern Honduras. We took a side trip to a beautiful Mayan community near the Guatemalan border—Copan Ruinas. Enjoying the ruins and other sights there, we stayed at Don Udo’s a popular tourist destination and struck up a conversation with the hotel’s proprietor, Udo Van der Waag. Seeing the familiar Rotary wheel on his lobby wall, we discussed our involvement—he a past president of his club, Distrito 4250, and me, a member of Space Center Rotary. He invited me to view a project with which his club was assisting. It was a nothing more than a simple stove, called an ecocina.
Jerrold Dewease received the "District Award - Above & Beyond", from District Governor Chris Schneider during the Governor's Official Visit on August 20 2012. The award recognizes the efforts of Rotarians that go "above and beyond" the call of duty set by the standard “Service Above Self”. Congratulations, Jerrold on a job well done!!!
Welcome our new member, Richard Sarpong, into Space Center Rotary Club. Today, Richard was installed as the newest member by District Governor Chris Schneider. What a great opportunity to introduce new members during the DG Official Visit. Richard is originally fro West Africa, Ghana. He has lived in US for 15 years, prior to that he has lived in Germany, UK and his home country. Richard is a graduate of Texas A&M and lives in Clearlake City with his wife Lilliana.

Space Center Rotarian Delia Stephens' husband, Billy Stephens, Clear Lake minister and psycho-therapist, passed away suddenly August 4 2012 in Overland Park, KS, where he was visiting family. A memorial service will honor his life September 7 2012, at 11:00am at Taylor Lakek Christian Church, 1730 Old Kirby Road, Seabrook TX. The Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation recently selected former astronaut, Captain (USN, Ret.), and NASA Johnson Space Center Director Michael L. Coats to receive the 2012 National Space Trophy.Coats was jointly nominated by two RNASA advisors: previous Trophy winner and former NASA Administrator Dr. Mike Griffin; and former NASA Kennedy Space Center Director Mr. William Parsons. In nominating him, they cited his management as the tenth director of Johnson Space Center “NASA’s leading human space flight center,” and his “leadership to the retiring Space Shuttle Program, the International Space Station Program, and his advancement of the capability for human exploration and utilization of space research development.”
Space Center Rotary presented Dr Greg Clariday with Honorary Membership, to recognize his outstanding contribution to not only the local community, but also for his long servicing participation in the Guerrero Clinic in Mexico. Every year, Dr Clariday and his team travels to the Guerrero Clinic and performs hundreds of cataract and other eye surgeries. When the news spreads that Dr Clariday is returning to the clinic, hundreds line up waiting for his teams arrival.
As you know, several times per year, a team of Rotarians & volunteers make a trek to Guerrero, MX, and accomplish amazing results. Our next eye Clinic will be October 10th, 2012. The Clinic is located in Guerrero City State of Chihuahua Mexico. Please make plans to participate in the near future. On a recent 2 day clinic (July 5-6), they performed 114 Cataract surgeries and 10 pterigium surgeries.
Rotary District 5890 has reserved the Picnic Area at Constellation Field for you and your family for an exclusive Picnic Night with the Sugar Land Skeeters. Come join your fellow Rotarians for a night of fellowship and fun on Saturday, August 25. Gates open at 5:30 pm. Picnic Buffet begins at 6:45 pm.You’ll also get to cheer on the Skeeters vs Bridgeport Bluefish.
This year's Shrimporee will be held at the Clear Lake Park on NASA Parkway (11am-4:00pm) This year's event will be the best ever, with educational, interactive presentations that will intrigue kids and educate parents. Each year, the Shrimporee is Space Center's major event, lots of food & beverages, shrimp and BBQ brisket lunch, live and silent auctions, entertainment, games for the kids and fellowship. The event is free, meals are $15 each. Raffle tickets for outstanding items are available for $10 each, 6 for $50.

The Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation is proud to be celebrating its silver anniversary with a gala event on May 6, 2011 at the Houston Hyatt Regency hotel. Founded by the Space Center Rotary Club in 1985 to organize and coordinate an annual event to recognize outstanding achievements in space and create greater public awareness of the benefits of space exploration, the Foundation has presented the National Space Trophy to an outstanding American who has made major contributions to our nation's space program since 1987.
The RNASA Board of Advisors selected recently retired Commander of U.S. Strategic Command, and former Space Shuttle Astronaut, General Kevin P. Chilton, USAF (Ret.) as the 25th recipient of the National Space Trophy. "General Chilton, as an Air Force commander and a former astronaut, is being recognized for his leadership in both our civilian and military space programs," Rodolfo González, President of the RNASA Foundation, said.
The Trophy will be presented to General Chilton by Astronaut Steven W. Lindsey, Colonel, USAF (Ret.) who commanded the last flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery that landed on March 9. Harris County Judge Ed Emmett will welcome guests to the event; the Clear Creek High School JROTC Color Guard will present the colors, and veteran reporter Miles O'Brien will serve as emcee. Former Apollo Astronaut Lt. Gen. Thomas Stafford, USAF (Ret.) will present an Omega watch to Gen. Chilton.
The winners of the annual RNASA Stellar Awards will be announced at the National Space Trophy gala in the evening of May 6 at the Houston Hyatt Regency. Veteran NASA Astronauts Stephanie D. Wilson and Richard R. Arnold, II will announce the winners and present them with engraved marble trophies.
"We had a record number of 151 Stellar Award nominees this year," reported Jennifer Mitchell, the RNASA Stellar Awards Committee Chairman. The nominations are subdivided into four categories, and the Foundation received 29 early career, 51 middle career, 35 late career, and 36 team nominations. NASA nominated 19 individuals and seven teams, the USAF nominated five individuals and four teams, and industry nominated 91 individuals and 25 teams.
Winners are selected by a Stellar Awards Evaluation Panel based on which accomplishments hold the greatest promise for furthering future activities in space, the extent to which the nominee played a key role in the accomplishment, and the extent to which the nominee meets the goal of recognizing "unsung heroes." The 2011 Evaluation Panel consists of former National Space Trophy winners, Dr. Christopher C. Kraft Jr. and Dr. Glynn S. Lunney, and former National Associate Administrator for Space Systems Development, Arnold D. Aldrich.
Prior to the evening banquet, the Stellar Award nominees and their spouse or guest will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of Johnson Space Center and a special Stellar Awards Luncheon at the Nassau Bay Hilton. Hubble Servicing Mission (STS-125) Pilot, Captain Gregory C. Johnson, UNS (Ret.) is the featured luncheon speaker.
Each nominee will receive a special commemorative certificate at the luncheon and a special ribbon to identify them at the evening's banquet event.

Rotary Club of Space Center 50th Anniversary Celebration
Since 1964, the Rotary Club of Space Center has been serving the Clear Lake area with dedicated community service and engaged volunteerism. On Wednesday, August 6 the club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a cocktail dinner and reception at Space Center Houston. To mark the occasion, Council Member Martin presented a certificate of recognition on behalf of the City of Houston honoring the club's service over the past half century. The event also featured memorabilia and video presentations celebrating the history of the chapter, and Rotarians and guests shared stories from the club's past activities.
Council Member Martin congratulates the Rotary Club of Space Center on the big milestone and thanks all involved with the organization over the past 50 years for their service to the community. He also thanks Scott Rainey, President of the Rotary Club of Space Center, for the invitation to attend the event.

"Space Center Rotarians, you deserve a standing ovation for the way you displayed the true spirit of Rotary at the Shrimporee. It was very pleasing to see all of you working together in harmony to conduct another successful Shrimporee! It should be mentioned is that your actions at the event set a great example for all of the student volunteers that helped with this year's event.

Kay & I want to thank each of you for your support during the sad loss of our son, Ty (48), who passed away on 25th of Aug, my birthday. Ty had been working in OR, got where he couldn't breathe well, drove home on Aug 15th. Went to Dr next day, was in intensive care 9 days where he succumbed from congestive heart failure. Kay & I were with Ty until the end. Ty asked to be cremated and his ashes scattered in some of his favorite places.
Ty loved to hunt and fish, never liked a crowd, so we have following his wishes with small gatherings of family & friends to scatter his ashes in a beautiful stream on his property in Arkansas (Aug 29), Toledo Bend Lake where he made many fishing trips (Sep 19) and my LA homestead which has been in family for 179 years (Oct 10).
Thanks again for your prayers and support for my family as we struggle through this hard time. Ty is probably hunting in Heaven right now and is mad because God won't let him shot anything there. HA

The Rotary Clubs of Space Center, Seabrook and League City honored Clear Creek Independent School District’s 44 campus Teachers of the Year at a luncheon at South Shore Habour Resort and Conference Center on Monday, May 21, 2018. During the luncheon, the 2018 CCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year "Crystal Starke" of Mossman Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year "Anita Lewis" of Westbrook Intrmediate were announced from a field of six finalists.
